Unravel the mystery...

Not much is known about the gallant Globbletops of the Farwaythian Peaks. It is said that these curious creatures once lived in an enchanted golden city on the mystical mountaintops, hosting great parties and feasts that would last for weeks at a time. However, not a trace of the Globbletops has been found in many centuries of searching, leading many to believe that they are nothing but myth.

One day, the Magnificent Merle, an intrepid entomologist, happens across a mysterious book that seemingly hints towards the existence of these elusive souls. Out of his element, yet desperately in need of grant money for his floundering foundation, he decides to brave the long journey to the Farwaythians to unravel the mystery of the Globbletops.

Created in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 55 in April of 2024, whose theme was Summoning.

The unique but familiar artwork and comical movements were very enjoyable.
When I found the first one, I thought, "This is how the game is supposed to be played!" When I found the first one, I was very interested in the game.
I was particularly impressed with the way Evil appeared, and my favorite looking Globbletops are the wall characters.
The final twist at the end was amazing, meow!!!!!

Was very fun, I liked the art a lot and the Seussian theme is fun, the final Globbletop was a neat tone shift and I liked how it ended. Love all of the Globbletops and found that the way the Globbletops were found was different from what I was thinking! My favourite is Bigfoot but Evil's obtaining was also really fun.

I kinda wish the guy that who likes lifting had something to say after he gave me the toy, though I know it's a jam game...

Merle best video game protagonist ever 2024

gem of all time

The game let me bury the glove and the bucket, but not the fish -- the one thing you're actually supposed to bury. I also cannot trigger the hint from the whale about burying it I saw in the playthrough in the comments.

I assume (based on your other reply) that you're playing the web version. I haven't been able to replicate this... it sounds like the game was somehow interpreting you trying to use the fish (with X or O) as trying to interact with the world normally (with Z or I). I haven't heard of this happening to anybody else so far, so I would think that it's an incidental glitch that could potentially be fixed by refreshing and restarting the game. I have it logged and will keep an eye out for anybody else reporting the same problem. Sorry about that...

(+1)

Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to restart from the beginning. Hopefully I'll be lucky and miss the glitch this time. If this helps, I think I had to burry the boxing glove, the bucket and the brick in order to get the fish to the front of the queue -- maybe I missed, but there seems to be no other way to cycle the objects.

You can cycle through the items you have by holding the X or O keys (which brings up an item menu over your character's head) and pressing A/D or left/right; the controls are a little unusual, but we didn't have a lot of time to refine them within the deadline. Here's hoping everything goes smoothly 🙌

Understand. I didn't even get to make a start menu for my game. Just throws you right into level one :)

I never could get the items to cycle, but maybe I wasn't holding the keys right. I'll try again.

loved this so much, i WILL be hyping Globbletops up to my friends.

only issue i had was if you get a globbletop and leave the room you get it in right as the little "you got it" text pops up, you'll be stuck standing still doing your lil smile outside forever?

Great game! I liked it a lot! :)

A side note, I didn't have any sound except for music when playing in browser. Tried adjusting the volume in-game and it didn't work. Downloaded it and the sounds played fine. Was using Firefox if you wanted to look into it.

That's disappointing :(

Linestock, I'm on chrome and sound works fine for me, if that helps pinpoint the issue.

Thanks for the heads up on the audio issue. I'm thinking there must be more to it since I also use Firefox (latest version, 64-bit), and I want to believe that it has something to do with Gamemaker web exports being rubbish in general. I'll keep it in mind for the time being and will let the programmer know if I can reproduce it.

Thank you so much for playing, too! I'm glad you enjoyed it :]
